#PACT2028: Halving child poverty by 2028
This November, we are calling on you to show your support for children and whanau living in poverty, and to show our leaders that we are holding them to the promise they made to halve child poverty by 2028.
Background
In 2018, all parties in parliament, except ACT, supported the introduction of the Child Poverty Reduction Act. In doing so, they signed on to the ten year goal of halving child poverty by 2028.
Although Christopher Luxon recommitted National to the promise of halving child poverty by 2028 on the election trail, documents obtained by Child Poverty Action Group under the Official Information Act have revealed that the Minister for Child Poverty Reduction is considering changing our country’s long-term child poverty reduction targets.
We need to show our decision-makers that we will not accept anything less than what has been promised: halving child poverty by 2028.
How can you help?
Fill in the form to request a #PACT2028 friendship bracelet. You can wear it yourself, gift it to a friend, send it to your local MP. Whatever you feel will show your support the best.
You can also email your MP and government ministers. Tell them you want them to live up to the pact they made. If we are to meet the 2028 target then we need politicians from across the political spectrum to once again come together and deliver on the promises they made.
Urgent action is needed to ensure families have the incomes they need as well as equitable access to housing, healthcare and education so all children can flourish. Find the contact details of current Members of Parliament (MPs) and read our key policy asks here.

Together, we can end child poverty in New Zealand.
